Introduction
Learning is a privilege, and our modern tools should empower people to pursue their dreams. We believe this principle applies to all fields but is especially relevant when it comes to dreams related to learning a new language.
Igniting Passion
Today's focus is on "Igniting Passion," as outlined in our vision statement below:
A future in which every educational journey is uniquely tailored to each learner, igniting passion, maximizing potential, and fostering personal growth.
At Ellie, we aim to ignite passion through our language learning journeys. To us, igniting passion means:
Helping our users leverage their existing passions and ambitions as fuel to achieve their language goals.
Why and how do we do this?
Asking "why" is often useful, and this topic is no exception. We want to ignite passion in our educational journeys because personal passions and ambitions are powerful, inexhaustible sources of motivation. Each of us can identify activities or topics that genuinely fascinate us, and we advocate using these passions to learn and grow in other areas, including language learning.
Now that you understand why we want to know about your passions, the next logical question is: "How do we do this?"
The answer is straightforward:
Proactive questions and listening: The Ellie app interface proactively asks validating questions about your interests. This continuous feedback helps us to get to know you better throughout your entire journey.
We believe ongoing engagement is vital because passions can evolve quickly. Personally, my interests change frequently, and I envision technology of the future being dynamic enough to keep pace with these changes.
Exposure to real-life content: Our app includes an entertainment library that dynamically adapts to your interests. This way, you won't need to search for relevant content yourself without support from Ellie.
My Personal Example
As mentioned, my interests shift rapidly! Today, I'd like to share an example related to my passion (or obsession) for surfing while living in Portugal 🇵🇹.
How did I channel this passion? I used it to learn Portuguese! I found surf tutorials online and repeatedly watched them, especially since I didn't initially understand everything.

Conclusion
Our goal is to create an experience that allows us to know you better, learn about your passions, and utilize them as positive momentum to accelerate your language-learning journey. Just as in surfing, your passion creates momentum that propels you forward on the wave!
